Facebook's 'awesome' plan to hook up with Skype:-

Facebook is reportedly about to launch a new video chat product powered by Microsoft-owned Skype.

The move follows on from the company founder Mark Zuckerberg's comments last week that Facebook would have an "awesome" new feature to shout about on 6 July.

TechCrunch, citing an insider with knowledge of the partnership, is now reporting that Facebook will launch a new Skype-based video chat product that works within the browser.

It will apparently also come loaded with a desktop component, all pointing at what TechCrunch describes as "deep integration" between Facebook and Skype.

If the report proves accurate, then the timing of such a union is interesting, given that it comes after Microsoft said it would purchase Luxembourg-based Skype for $8.5bn in May.

That said, this wouldn't be the first time Skype has played the integration game with Facebook. In October 2010 it inked a deal with the company by slotting its "News Feed" and "Phonebook" features into its software.

Microsoft already has close ties with Facebook. Its Bing product powers the dominant social network's search and Redmond owns shares in the privately owned firm.

Google going to launch it's Chromebook in 2012

Internet giant Google's Chromebook, a laptop-like device or a netbook tailor-made for Web browsing and running on its Chrome Operating System, is likely to be shipped in India by early 2012.

Sundar Pichai, Senior Vice-President, Chrome and Apps for Google, said: “we are very excited about chrome books we have taken our 1st step in the long journey. so we have exceeded the market in many countries to gain mindshare. In 2012 we will be expanding in more countries and it's my hope that we will be India also.”
Chromebook was launched earlier this year and runs on Google's cloud-based operating system and its Web browser Chrome. Priced between $349 to $499 in the international markets, only Samsung and Acer currently sell Chromebooks through online stores.
“Chrome, is very popular on laptops, where most of the time is spent browsing and, it was natural for us to take the next step: build an OS to bring the full power of the Web to users. In October 2011, Chrome overtook Microsoft's Internet Explorer as the most popular browser in India,” Pichai said.
Analysts say Google needs to address issues of pricing and features to make it a success in India.
Google says as of now Chrome will be only for the laptop market, while the popular android operation system will be for Smartphone's and tablets.

GOOGLE TO LAUNCH 'NEXUS ONE' PHONE NEXT YEAR

Google plans to begin selling a cellphone directly to consumers as soon as next year. Called Nexus One, the phone was designed inside Google and will be sold, at least initially, without being subsidised by a wireless partner. According to reports, the phone will run on the search giant's Android operating system and will be sold online. It is being manufactured by HTC, which also built the first Android phone to hit the market, T-Mobile's G1 phone. The phone's pricing, along which countries Google initially will target for the device, couldn't be learned.

IPHONE GETS BLUETOOTH KEYBOARD DRIVER

Apple’s refusal to add a netbook to its range has left many attempting to use the iPhone or iPod touch as a rough equivalent, but ease of text entry continues to frustrate. Happily, where Apple fall short the developer community delivers, with the simply-named iPhone Bluetooth Keyboard Driver. Soon to appear in the Cydia Store, v.1 of the driver allows you to wirelessly connect a Bluetooth keyboard to the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS or iPod touch.

It’s not a perfect solution: it requires that the device be jailbroken first, and iPhone 2G support is unclear at present. You’ll also need an iPod touch with Bluetooth, too, so that counts out the first-gen model. The software implementation isn’t quite perfect either; v.10 lacks support for cut/copy/paste, you can’t highlight text by holding down shift and using the cursor keys, the CapsLock button won’t work and Apple’s own wireless keyboard won’t quick auto-connect.

Nonetheless, this is a huge step forward for turning the iPhone or iPod touch into a mobile workstation, and those who enter large amounts of text may find the combination of the App Store and this new driver irresistible. No word on when exactly it will enter the Cydia Store.
