Mobile tracking software logs every phone activity, threat to personal data

It’s not just Facebook who has been accused of accessing private user information. Trevor Eckhart, an Android developer had recently become the talk of the techville when he shed light on a certain security software from a company called Carrier iQ that is capable of recording users’ phone activity. Basically, it is mobile tracking software used for quality checks. This software, which has been stealthily pre-loaded on millions of handsets gets further scrutinized by Trevor. He now discloses a 17 minute video displaying that Carrier iQ software can report everything that a user does. It can keep a track of the user's SMSes, key presses, GPS and so on.

The video shows logging of texts messages, encrypted web searches and much more. The 25-year old developer had irked the software maker by shedding light on their secret mobile tracking tool. He was even threatened to face legal action. Reportedly, the company backed off later and revealed that Carrier IQ’s software only helps with “gathering information off the handset to understand the mobile-user experience, where phone calls are dropped, where signal quality is poor, why applications crash and battery life.”

The video shows that the software is logging Eckhart’s online search results, inspite of using the HTTPS version of Google to hide searches from spying elements. “Every button you press in the dialer before you call, it already gets sent off to the IQ application,” reveals the video. The content is secretly sent to Carrier IQ’s servers. 

This pre-installed software can be turned off only by rooting the phone and replacing the operating system. Moreover, phone activities are reported to Carrier IQ, even after you stop the wireless service and use only Wi-Fi. 

Mobile devices have almost become a hub of corporate and personal data. Such stealthy intrusion could have worse implications. Companies should not be allowed to employ such tracking tools without the consent of the phone owner. What are your views? Do let us know.

Aakash may come at a lower price, with additional features

Pre-orders of the commercial version of Aakash by Datawind have crossed the three lakh mark. An upgraded version is also speculated for early 2012. The company now states that in about six months, the company could lower the price of the tablet and also add in some new features, reports The EconomicTimes.

Suneet Tuli of Dataind said that the tablet will hit markets in January, as it is now being made available for the students at a subsidized price of Rs.1,500. He said, "Processing power, battery life many such things can be increased over a period of time and we hope that every six months there would be something new in the Aakash tablet.”

Datwind has joined hands with manufacturing companies in Cochin and Noida to meet the increasing demand for the world’s cheapest tablet. It has also initiated a national contest of innovative and useful apps for the tablet.

"We hope to create entrepreneurial instincts among the student community. Several money-spinners like Facebook etc were started by students still in college. Students think unconventionally unlike large corporates. If they design a useful application which is selected by the jury it would be pre-burned in millions of tablets to be shipped out by us" said Tuli.

Here's how to launch the Forgotten Password Wizard:

Single-click Start menu, Control Panel, and User Accounts.
Click your user account name.
Under Related Tasks on the left, click "Prevent forgotten password" to launch the wizard.

Now that you've launched the wizard, let it walk you through creating the recovery disk. Make sure the disk you use is formatted and in the drive. After it's finished creating the disk, label it and stash it away for an emergency.


If you happen to forget your password, all you need to do is click your user icon at the logon screen. Even though you don't have your password, go ahead and click the green arrow just like you would to finish logging on to your computer. set it to ZERO.

This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather
than the default 20%.

RBI's Young Scholars Award Scheme 2012....

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched the RBI Young Scholars Award Scheme to generate interest in and awareness about the Indian banking sector and RBI. Under the Scheme, the RBI will select a maximum of 150 young scholars through a countrywide competitive examination and award scholarship. Selection test will focus on the role and functions of RBI and banks in India and will be held in English as well as in all major regional languages. Selected candidates will be required to work on projects in select offices of RBI for 2 to 3 months and will be paid a consolidated stipend of Rs. 7500/- per month during the duration of the project. RBI will assist outstation awardees in boarding and lodging. The awardees shall have no right/claim for an appointment in the RBI. Any candidate who had qualified and worked at RBI under the RBI Young Scholar Award Scheme in any of the previous years are not eligible to apply again.

All students, between 18 and 23 years of age, currently pursuing their undergraduate studies in any subject under any recognized university in India, are eligible to take the competitive examination. There is no application fee. The selection test will be held on January 29, 2012 at various centres across India. The results of the selection test will be announced in the first week of April 2012. Desirous candidates may submit applications only by the online mode. Last date for receipt of applications is December 16, 2011. 1. Eligibility
(A) Educational Qualification: All students across India who have completed 10 + 2 years of formal education or its equivalent from recognized institutions/boards in 2011 or before and are currently pursuing their undergraduate studies. However, those having enrolled for or having acquired degree(s) higher than graduation will not be eligible. Candidates who have qualified and worked at RBI as a Young Scholar in any of the previous years are not eligible to apply again.

(B) Age: Candidates should be of age 18 years or more but less than 23 years as on September 1, 2011.

2. Number of Seats
A maximum of 150 young scholars would be awarded scholarship by the RBI every year under the scheme. Out of these, a maximum of 50 candidates may be selected through a test conducted in English medium. The rest, up to a maximum number of 100, shall be selected on regional basis through a test conducted in vernacular medium.

3. Entrance Examination
The entrance exam will be conducted in English, Hindi and 11 other regional languages. The regional languages will be Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. The exam will be held at around 100 different locations spread all across the country. The indicative List of Centres is given in this notification.

4. Examination Pattern
The examination will be of objective type with multiple choices for answers. The paper will be of approximately 90 minutes duration and will have questions related to role and functioning of the RBI, the trend of banking industry in India and general economic and financial environment of the country.


5. How to prepare for the Exam

6. Placements and Project Assignment
The selected All India candidates and the Regional Candidates will be placed at the nearest Regional Office designated for the purpose, depending on the size of the office. The selected candidates will be required to work within the RBI on projects/assignments allocated to them by the respective Regional Director of RBI. They will be expected to complete the same in a reasonable time, subject to a minimum of 2 months and a maximum of 3 calendar months.

7. Stipend
During their stint with the RBI, they will be paid a consolidated monthly stipend of Rs.7500/- per head. For broken periods, the amount will be calculated on a pro rata basis.

8. Accommodation
During their stay with the RBI, the selected scholars who do not have a place to reside at the centre of placement will be assisted with accommodation for the duration of their project.

9. How to Apply

I am Pawan's heroine, not her: Shruti Haasan

The last few days have been abuzz with the rumours of Ileana replacing Shruti Haasan in 'Gabbar Singh', which is the Telugu remake of Bollywood superhit 'Dabangg'. However, Shruti says all these baseless reports will not have any impact on her.

"I don't know from where these rumours come from. Any how, they will not affect me as I'm a very positive person. I'm the heroine of Gabbar Singh," said Shruti Haasan.

Shruti Haasan is looking forward to work with Pawan Kalyan for the first time.

"I'm very excited to be part of the film. I think it's going to be a lot of fun and a great learning experience working with Pawan Kalyan. Director Harish Shankar has made elaborate changes to the script to suit the local audience.  I like my role very much. You will see a completely new avatar of Shruti Haasan in this film. We will be starting the shoot very soon," she added.

The November schedule of 'Gabbar Singh' has been put off due to Pawan's backache.  Pawan will resume shooting from December and the film is slated to release during summer 2012.

Adivi Sesh who  debuted as a hero in the tinsel town with 'Karma' will be seen as a villain in Pawan Kalyan's power packed action entertainer 'Panjaa'.  He spoke at length about his role in the film and two very important persons who were the sole reason for making 'Panjaa' happen.

"I play a character which has a lot of negative shades and my name in the film is Munna," said Adivi Sesh.

Method:1
1)Right Click on the desktop and Make a new folder2)Now rename the folder with a space(U have to hold ALT key and type 0160).3)Now u have a folder without a name.4)Right click on the folder>properties>customize. Click on change icon.5)Scroll a bit, u should find some empty spaces, Click on any one of them.click okThats it, now u can store ur personal data without any 3rd party tools.
Method:2
U can also hide ur folder by dis method:-open Start>Run>CMDnow type attrib +a +s +h C:/name of d folder u want to hide(Path of the Directory)Now even in the folder option Show all Hide folders is slected still u will get dis folder hide...Reason:-BeCause the directory will get the attribute of a system file.
To unhide 1.Type same command juzz put "-" instead of "+" .2.Go to Tools>>Folder Options>>View and uncheck the Hide Protected operating system files.

The Computer Continuously Restarts

When you start your computer, the Microsoft Windows XP start up screen appears, and then the computer restarts. The Windows XP logon screen does not appear. This error can occur if the Kernel32.dll file is missing or damaged.

To resolve this issue, use the Windows Recovery Console to extract a new copy of the Kernel32.dll file from the original Windows XP compact disc (CD). To do this, follow these steps:

1. Start the Recovery Console. If you do not have the Recovery Console installed, start it from the Windows XP compact disc (CD). To do this, follow these steps:

a. Insert the Windows XP CD and restart the computer. If prompted, select any options required to boot from the CD.

b. When the text-based part of Setup begins, follow the prompts; choose the repair or recover option by pressing R.

c. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access from the recovery console.

d. When prompted, type the Administrator password.

2. At the command prompt, type "cd system32" (without the quotation marks), and then press ENTER.

3. Type "ren kernel32.dll kernel32.old" (without the quotation marks), and then press ENTER.

4. Type "map" (without the quotation marks), and then press ENTER.

5. Note the drive letter assigned to the CD-ROM drive that contains the Windows XP CD. It is displayed in a format similar to the following: D: \Device\CdRom0

6. Type "expand \i386\kernel32.dl_" (without the quotation marks) (where is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive that contains the Windows XP CD), and then press ENTER. For example:

Expand d:\i386\kernel32.dl_

Note the underscore character after the "L" in Kernel32.dl_

The following message appears: Kernel32.dll, 1 file(s) expanded.

7. Type "exit" (without the quotation marks). The computer restarts.

8. Remove the Windows XP CD and start the computer normally.

Story:

A well knit tale, the story is about Gautam (Nara Rohit) who is an orphan and grows to become a software engineer. His goal in life is to marry a girl who belongs to a joint family since he is solo from childhood. On the other hand, there is Vaishnavi (Nisha Agarwal) who hails from a big family and is doted by all. She has a very strong bond with her father Naidu (Prakash Raj). A chance incident gets Gautam to see Vaishnavi and he falls in love with her. However, Vaishnavi doesn't respond. After few situations, she starts responding to his feelings. But trouble comes in the form of Naidu who is dead against giving his daughter to an orphan. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Artist Performances:

Nara Rohit comes with a good performance and he scores in few places. But he must develop ease in his body language and flexibility in his facial expressions. Nisha Agarwal is neat and does a fine job. However, she must also focus on performance aspect, especially in emotional scenes. Prakash Raj is perfect. Jayasudha gives decent act. Sayaji Shinde was standard. Srinivasa Reddy was excellent. Ali brought few smiles. M S Narayana was moderate. Ravu Ramesh could have been used for better length. Pavitra Lokesh was elegant. The others did their bit as required.

Plus Points:   

     * Emotional depth  

     * Dialogues  

     * Background score   

     * Cinematography   

     * Comedy

Minus Points:   

     * Second half   

     * Lead pair performance during emotional scenes   

     * Overdose of sentiment in second half

Analysis:

The idea of coming up with a joint family concept is unrealistic in today's times given the lifestyle and demands of the world. However, the subject was handled with deft maturity and more than the idea of the film, it is the message which is conveyed and the way it has been conveyed which scores. The feel of the film is the key aspect for grabbing the audience attention and that worked here. Though there were those occasional hiccups, overall the film has worked in a good way and it will appeal to all classes of audience. At the box office, it has good chances to score hit.

Verdict: Emotional and Touching!!!

Venkatesh's future depends on it!

Is the superstar Victory Venkatesh slowly losing the sheen and star power? The almost zero buzz over Bodyguard indicates the same. Venkatesh has been out of form for quite a while now. He didn't have a single hit to his credit since Adavari Matalaku Ardhale Verule, which was released four years ago.

Venkatesh, who is in his fifties, is slowly but surely moving towards character roles. Although his role in Seetamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu is being publicized as one of the main leads, buzz says that it is just a character actor role! Venkatesh has done a supporting role in Kamal Haasan's Eenadu too.

Will Venky do more and more supporting roles in the coming days? Bodyguard's result will answer it. As of now, there isn't any real buzz or expectations on this film. Looks like Venkatesh's glowing career of twenty five years as a big star is heading towards the climax.
